FIRE
(1-3channel, 10min)
In October of 2024, the Design Museum of Barcelona invited us to participate in a three-day pop-up event. Most participants showcased tangible designs, but as filmmakers, we approached the event differently, creating an installation titled Fire.
The centerpiece of Fire is an 11-minute film inspired by a question we asked 100 people across four countries: If your home were on fire, and your family and pets were safe, what would you take with you if you had just one minute?
Their answers were as varied as the people themselves—some chose nothing, while others mentioned items imbued with meaning: photographs, books, a piece of art, or a cherished heirloom. Through their choices, we were reminded that the value of what we hold close is not in its cost, but in the stories and connections it carries.
In January of 2025, this question took on a heartbreaking reality for so many in Los Angeles. The fires have forced thousands to make impossible choices, and the toll—of possessions, memories, and lives—has been devastating.
To the people of Los Angeles, we want you to know: our hearts are with you. Fire was created as an exploration of what matters most to us as individuals and as a community. In this moment of profound loss, it is also a reminder of the resilience and love that endure even when so much is taken away.
This tragedy has shown the power of courage and compassion—neighbors helping neighbors, strangers offering support, and communities coming together to rebuild. It’s in these acts of humanity that we find hope, even in the face of loss.
We hope Fire serves as a quiet moment of reflection, a reminder that what truly matters is often what can never be destroyed—the love, memories, and connections that sustain us.
To all those impacted by the fires, and to the heroes on the front lines, we send you love, strength, and our deepest gratitude.
With love,
David and Hi-Jin
